Are you interested in learning more about what’s going on in Downtown Raleigh and surrounding neighborhoods? Do you have a desire to lend your voice to shaping the growth and character of Downtown Raleigh (including the corridor between Renaissance Park and the Central Business District)? Maybe you would be interested in hearing about mixers at various Downtown restaurants where you can meet other people that live in and around Downtown Raleigh.

If so, then you might be interested in joining Downtown Living Advocates. It is a group whose “mission is to be an organized voice for Downtown Residents, working together with city agencies, concerned institutions and local businesses in supporting balanced and sustainable growth for Raleigh.” Even if you join just for the parties, it’s a great group that provides another communication link for those of us that are interested in the continued success of Downtown Raleigh and our part of the City.

Go to www.raleighdla.com and click on membership. Be sure to indicate that you live in Renaissance Park. Don’t worry about getting a bunch of junk emails when you sign up. They’re not selling anything. It’s not that kind of group.

Speaking of parties…

The next DLA mixer will be June 8th at the new Wilmoore Café from 5-7.  If you sign up and RSVP before June 6, you’ll have a pre-printed name tag and a raffle ticket for prizes waiting for you! Let’s get a big representation of Renaissance Park residents!

As gas prices rise, more homebuyers are asking for shorter commutes and home offices.

A new survey of Coldwell Banker agents found that 75% said their clients were considering gas prices in choosing where to live. Of those, 89% said buyers were looking for homes closer to work and 45% said buyers wanted homes closer to shops and services.

The increase in gas prices may be boosting a trend toward urban living, as more homebuyers and renters seek to live in central cities and reject far-flung suburbs.

014 The Ren Park Dining Club, organized by Mike and Dana Gierdowski, enjoys evenings out at local restaurants. On Friday the 13th, eleven residents had no bad luck for dinner at Fai Thai in Raleigh on Blount Street. From interesting cocktails such as sparkling wine with a bitters-infused sugar cube at the bottom and a twist of lemon on top, to a spicy chicken concoction for a
lettuce wrap, prawn toasts, and squash crème brûlée.

Not only was the food good and fun, so was the company. This group loves to eat and chat. Visit the Dining Club blog: http://rparkdiningclub.wordpress.com/

Does this sound like something you would like to do? Contact Mike and Dana at kittypryde@nc.rr.com to get on the mailing list for future outings.

June is right around the corner and you know what that means…the tournament you’ve been training for all spring is back! We’re shutting down Fayetteville Street once again to bring you the 2nd Annual Triangle Breakfast Club Capital Cornhole Classic benefiting Backpack Buddies at Isaac Hunter’s in Downtown Raleigh on Saturday, June 4th, 2011!

As was last year, all of the proceeds will be donated to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Backpack Buddies program which provides children of low-income families healthy meals on the weekend. Knowing what a difference your donation will make must make you want to Register Now!

Pre-Register online prior to midnight on May 29th, 2011 for a $50.00 per team donation. Registrations received after May 29th or on the day of the tournament will be $60.00 per team. Entry is limited to 96 teams of 2 players per team. Your registration donation includes two tee-shirts (per team) and a chance to win some great prizes and a plaque on the wall of honor in Isaac Hunter’s. If you fall out fast though, don’t worry! The losers bracket is back by popular demand!

If folks are not into Cornhole…they can come out and enjoy the (hopefully) nice weather and fun-filled atmosphere anyway! The Capital Cornhole Classic is a family-friendly event with face-painting, food trucks, and more. Come out and grab a beer at the LoneRider tent and cheer your friends on!  The event is on Fayetteville Street at the Isaac Hunter Tavern.
