This past Thursday, the Garden Club met to plan a Seed & Plant Swap within RenPark!  The Swap will take place once a month, on the first of the month.

Here’s the deal:

1.) During the month, take note/gather extra plants, bulbs, cuttings or seeds you might have.

2.) Before the first of the month, email: your contact info, a “wish list” of the plants/seeds you have to share, and a list of the plants/seeds you would like to receive to John Bertke at johnbertke@gmail.com

3.) John will compile the list in a spreadsheet and email it out to the Garden Club on the first of each month!

The Garden Club also discussed potential Spring field trips for the group!  Some ideas included: Broadwells Nursery, The Arboretum, WRAL Rhododendron Garden, and Plant Delights.

Our next meeting will be held on October 20th!  Note: Location Change!  We’ll be holding out next meeting in the RenPark Business Center above the Clubhouse, next to the Gym.  See you then!

Ted Gross is the owner of soon-to-open Bottle Revolution, a specialty-beer store located on Lake Boone Trail in Raleigh.

While recent U.S. beer sales have been down a bit across the industry, reports estimate that the craft/specialty segment has grown by over 10% in 2009 and 2010.

Locally, the beer culture has grown-up significantly, thanks in part to the popularity of the Triangle-area breweries and great restaurants that feature craft-beer. Hundreds of new items became available in Raleigh following the “Pop-the-Cap” campaign (changing the maximum ABV allowable from 6% to 15% in NC).

Bottle Revolution will feature dedicated sections of the store for NC brews, seasonal selections (i.e. Oktoberfest and Pumpkin beers) and imports from countries like Belgium, Germany and England. Other unique features of The Revolution include:

  • The Year-of-Beers Club: members receive a monthly selection, the benefit of being on an exclusive mailing list [along with the first opportunity to buy limited releases] and a Bottle Revolution T-shirt.
  • The ability to “Mix-a-Six”. Customers will be able to try new wares without paying a premium for breaking up a 6-pack or 4-pack.
  • Tailgate coolers. The store is 5 minutes away from the RBC Center and Carter-Finley Stadium. Call ahead with your order and it will be packed in a disposable (recyclable) cooler with ice and waiting to be picked-up. Also great for parties and concerts.
  • Customer purchase tracking. Purchase history will make recommending new items easy – also a great tool to present a beer lover with a delicious surprise if you don’t already know their favorites.
  • Shipping. Bottle Revolution can ship to most states. A great way to share some of the great local beers with friends and family outside of NC.

To keep up with all the details on Bottle Revolution, please check out: www.bottlerevolution.com, www.facebook.com/BottleRevolution or on Twitter: @BtlRev.

Ted is a graduate of Raleigh’s Cardinal Gibbons H.S. and Elon University.
