The event you’ve been training for all spring is back! Triangle Breakfast Club is shutting down Fayetteville Street in Downtown Raleigh once again to bring you the 3rd Annual Capital Cornhole Classic benefitting BackPack Buddies at Isaac Hunter’s on Saturday, June 2nd, 2012.

As was last year, all of the proceeds will be donated to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s BackPack Buddies program which provides children of low-income families healthy meals on the weekend. Your donation will make such a big impact! Register Now!

Registration is available online for a $50.00 per team donation. Entry is limited so register now! *** PLEASE NOTE*** 1 ticket = 1 team (2 people) Thanks!

Your registration donation includes two t-shirts (per team), a chance to win some great prizes and maybe…just maybe…a plaque on the wall of honor in Isaac Hunter’s! If you fall out fast though, don’t worry. The Big “L” is back by popular demand, giving those who lose their first game the opportunity to compete in a consolation bracket and keep the good times going. YOUR TEAM MUST REGISTER BY WEDNESDAY MAY 16TH TO BE GUARANTEED A T-SHIRT!

Not in to Cornhole? Come out and enjoy the (hopefully) nice weather and fun-filled atmosphere anyway! Grab a beer and cheer on your friends, or enjoy the family-friendly face-painting & kids zone, plus food trucks, street vendors and more!

Sign-in at the registration table starts at 11:00am Saturday morning (6/2/12) and the bags start flyin’ at noon!

See you there!

In January of 2009, a small group of people who responded to PPM’s 2008 call for volunteers began what is now the Renaissance Park Neighborhood Association and Community Watch. Over three years, several members left due to time commitments and others joined but found they, too, had to leave. Devoting volunteer time to a neighborhood is not easy.

During these years, a community website has been maintained, events have been held, and most importantly for the success of the neighborhood, the RPNACW has been active in Raleigh and the state to secure the completion of Tryon Road, without which our retail segment will not begin.

Right now, we would like to add two RenPark resident homeowners to the RPNACW, which, for ease of speaking, will be called the Advisory Committee (AC). The Community Watch program has been very successful, as those who have attended meetings can attest. We need someone who will set up and lead those meetings.

Recreation is another area where we would like an active leader. We have tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, a swimming pool, and a lot of space for walking, running, and riding bikes. We’d like someone to lead coordinated recreation events, teams, ladders, walks, runs, etc.

If you are interested in being an active member of the AC, in one of the positions above, please send your information to Anthony McLeod by March 23rd. Besides giving one of those jobs a one-year commitment, you agree to attend the monthly AC meeting, the first Monday of each month.

Ed, Jenny, and Graham Rogers were the first residents of Renaissance Park, moving in on July 13, 2007. They moved from Boylan Heights, just west of downtown. They wanted to stay near downtown, enjoy the benefits of new construction, and be close to Ed’s work at NC State. He is an Associate Director in the Communication Technologies Office. Jenny works for Elexio, a church management software and website company. Graham is in 4th grade at GRACE Christian School.

Earliest memory of Ren Park:
Jenny: Driving from Lake Wheeler to the Target in Garner and over time seeing the land cleared. Then seeing this lone building (the Welcome Center) and wondering what it was and what was happening.

Ed: Walking in the mud to meet a sales rep in an RV. They were just getting ready to pave the parking lot and initial construction had started on the pool. The rep had sketchy prints for the entire development and a list of builders. The only house plans ready for selection were with First American (now Mungo Homes).

Favorite thing about being the first ones to move in:
Graham: The Pool! For about a month we had the pool to ourselves with two bored lifeguards. Later others moved in, and people with contracts to purchase, yet waiting to move in, were allowed to enjoy the pool, too.

Ed: Waving daily to the security guard who patrolled the property each night. The night we moved in, the security guard thought we were trespassing. Also Graham and I enjoyed looking for airport artifacts from the old Raleigh Municipal Airport which used to occupy this site.

Jenny: Welcoming new neighbors and watching the incredible change in the landscape

Favorite nearby restaurants:
Ed: Larry’s Southern Kitchen—all you can eat including pig’s feet and collards. It’s located on Tryon Rd., after you cross Wilmington St.

Jenny & Graham: El Toro (The Bull) is located at the corner of Junction and Tryon Rd., across from RenPark. Fav menu items include tacos and gorditas with Tinga (shredded spicy white meat chicken) with the condiment/salsa bar.

Favorite things about Ren Park now:
Graham: The pool, of course, and the sidewalks for riding bikes and scooters plus fun activities like the 4th of July kids’ parade and the Christmas party for Lil’ Troops.

Favorite thing about RenPark in the future:
Ed: Retail on a realigned Tryon Rd.
