Almost 100 residents joined in the 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off. Ted Gross, owner of Bottle Revolution and Ren Park resident, provided the Beer Tasting.
We had 12 fantastic chili entries. Residents tasted each chili and voted for their favorite. And the winners were:
1st- Ed & Debbie Browning with their chili “Winter Warmth”. They received a gift certificate to Bottle Revolution, a “My Chili Brought It, 2012 Ren Park Chili Cook-Off Champion” apron, and their name added, as the 2012 winner, to the Chili Cook-Off Champion plaque that will be displayed at the Visitors Center
2nd- Amanda & Matthew Waligora, with their chili “Pot ‘O Gold”. They received a gift certificate to Bottle Revolution.
3rd- Cara McLeod, with her chili “The Lousy Hunter” (Vegetarian). She received a gift certificate to Bottle Revolution.
Thank You to each of our Chili Chefs for their great chili, to Ted for the good adult beverages, and to all of our residents who came for a night out with the neighbors.
So, Who’s planning their recipe for next year?

Ed, Jenny, and Graham Rogers were the first residents of Renaissance Park, moving in on July 13, 2007. They moved from Boylan Heights, just west of downtown. They wanted to stay near downtown, enjoy the benefits of new construction, and be close to Ed’s work at NC State. He is an Associate Director in the Communication Technologies Office. Jenny works for Elexio, a church management software and website company. Graham is in 4th grade at GRACE Christian School.
Earliest memory of Ren Park:
Jenny: Driving from Lake Wheeler to the Target in Garner and over time seeing the land cleared. Then seeing this lone building (the Welcome Center) and wondering what it was and what was happening.
Ed: Walking in the mud to meet a sales rep in an RV. They were just getting ready to pave the parking lot and initial construction had started on the pool. The rep had sketchy prints for the entire development and a list of builders. The only house plans ready for selection were with First American (now Mungo Homes).
